Microsoft surface pro type cover not working. Their surface keyboard or type cover isn’t responding properly or has become totally unresponsive. The type cover attaches magnetically to your surface. Once you release the two buttons, your surface pro will be powered off.

The bad news from my limited experience with covers is that the hinging / flexing of the cover especially backwards tends to break the tracks in the cover right at the contacts and is not repairable. Many surface users are having issues with their keyboards. Even before i rebooted, however, the type cover was not responding. I hoped that the reboot would reactivate it, but it didn't.

Fold the type cover back. My guess is that the pro 4 cover was no longer deemed a new device since it was plugged in before previously.
